Rite-Hite

Procurement Intern

May - August 2019 • Dubuque, IA

What I liked

I got involved with a lot of projects right away so I learned as time went on. My boss made sure that I wasn't being overwhelmed by the work so he would guide me through the way business was conducted at Rite-Hite. Each person there was friendly and willing to help me at any given point which made me feel more comfortable to ask questions.

What I wish was different

I wish there would have been a little more training involved. It worked out for me since I am a quick learner and learn my best by getting hands-on, but for some, this may not be the case. It is difficult to explain everything to a new intern who only has a 3 month period over the summer so not a huge deal.

Advice

I would tell students that you get way more out of internships and hands-on experience than you do at school. There were some concepts that I applied from school to my job, but most of the skills involved in the job aren't specific to school. Communication is a big one and school teaches how to properly communicate which is one that is relevant in the job world. I highly recommend fulfilling an internship because the experience and knowledge gained from it is immeasurable.
