Riverside County District Attorney's Office

College Academy Intern

June 2023 • Riverside, CA

What I liked

I enjoyed the hands-on experience I received and having the opportunity to shadow a Deputy District Attorney and Paralegal in the office. It was wonderful to immerse myself in both civil and criminal law and assist with document preparation.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship had been paid. It was difficult to work while attending my internship for 16 hours a week during the summer.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share is to put yourself out there and make the connections. Let others know who you are and what you want to do, so they can help you on your path towards success.

District Attorney Intern

June - August 2019 • Riverside, CA

What I liked

Shadowing a Major Narcotics attorney, learning about the job, being immersed in the campus culture, the whole experience helped me solidify my decision to pursue law. I liked touring the county facilities, and seeing all the different aspects of law enforcement.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have spend even more time shadowing my attorney, and maybe had a more active role helping with the cases she worked on.

Advice

Treat internships like a real job, they often use them to recruit people for after graduation. Be professional and try to form lasting relationships with those you work for and with.
