The people and exciting technology being worked on.
What I wish was different
More interactions with other team members instead of having a designated "intern" project. It would have been nice to work on something full-time employees were collaborating on.
Advice
Try your best to reach out of your comfort zone and meet more people.

Student Tech-Senior
June - September 2019 • El Segundo, CA
What I liked
I saw my manager daily for him to answer my questions and give me direction. I also had access to multiple team members to ask them work and career related questions.
What I wish was different
I didn't experience this personally, but a lot of interns didn't have enough work to keep them consistently busy.
Advice
It's great to network in multiple departments once you start working in a big company because you're constantly meeting new people. If you don't like your specific team but you want to work at the company, other managers are willing to talk about if you would be a better fit in their section.

Delivery Assurance
May - August 2019 • East Hartford, CT
What I liked
A few of the things I liked about working at UTC was the people I worked with. The community in the office I worked in was very inviting and welcoming. Another thing I enjoyed was the work I was doing. It was very interesting to see the process of getting a part of an engine that is undergoing maintenance.
What I wish was different
I wish that the company was a little more organized when it came to getting the technology needed to complete my work. It took me almost my whole internship to get a monitor that I ordered on my first day of work.
Advice
Get to know everyone on the office floor. They may be able to help down the road with future problems and establishing a relationship early will help.

Product Management Intern
June - August 2019 • Bradenton, FL
What I liked
I loved this internships for many different reasons. The main reason being the really awesome projects I got to work and incredible amount I learned from them. I had so many amazing people there to support me and push me to become successful and I can't thank them enough for helping me grow this past summer. An example of a project I worked on was analyzing a licensing and royalty agreement, and then recommending a future financial decision to leadership based on my evaluation. This experience challenged me and I learned an amazing amount from it, and I will keep the experience with me for my future career!
What I wish was different
I do not wish anything had been different, it was truly a remarkable experience and I was blessed to have the opportunity to work for a great company with incredible people around me!
Advice
One piece of advice I would share about this experience is try your hardest to be the biggest sponge you possibly can be. Soak in as much knowledge as you possibly can and jump on any opportunities that come up. Ask for help when you need it because there are awesome people around you that would love to help you! Have fun, work hard, and learn as much as you can!

Accounts Receivable Intern
January 2019 • Phoenix, AZ
What I liked
I love the people I work with. My manager tells me what he expects and I need to deliver. It is a good practice for "the real world" because no one will be checking in every day to see how you are doing. You will just be expected to deliver.
What I wish was different
I wish it could have been a bit more structured in the begin phases. Although this caused a lot of early confusion, you learn a lot more by getting through those difficult times.
Advice
You need to definitely be a self-starter and always look for what you need to do. Stay proactive and always find ways to improve current processes.

January 2019 • Farmington, CT
What I liked
I've enjoyed the independence and accountability expected from interns at UTC. I have developed lots of in-job technical skills that will prepare me for my next full-time role.
What I wish was different
Doing the internship sooner!
Advice
I applied to over 30 internships before I finally got an offer. It takes work, LOTS of work. Polish your resume, LinkedIn, and cover letter. Refine your interview skills through practice & mock interviews. & most importantly, NETWORK with everyone: friends, faculty, coworkers, and everyone in between.

Project Engineer Intern
June - November 2018 • Phoenix, AZ
What I liked
It was a good first time intern position and the company has positions offered for any type of student; the student's major does not have to be engineering or business.
What I wish was different
I wish I had more to work and meaningful work to do. The work I was doing was also unrelated to my major because I am majoring in robotics engineering.
Advice
Take advantage of the experience because you never know when it might end. There are plenty of opportunities to jump on, all it takes is for you to notice them and act on them.

Project Engineer Intern
June - November 2018 • Phoenix, AZ
What I liked
I was able to explore my talents because my manager presented me with many new opportunities and showed me how a real company does things. I made CAD models of actual parts that were 3D printed and used on an anemometer sensor for future automation.
What I wish was different
I wish I had networked with more people at the company before leaving and that the work I was doing was more related to my major, robotics.
Advice
There is no time to get anxiety at a new job. Every minute of the experience requires focus and attention. Only later in life when you look back can you afford to reminisce on your memories. It may be difficult and require much preparation, but it is worthwhile to think proactively and do things that will benefit yourself in the long run.
