Undergraduate Research Assistant

June - August 2022 • San Jose, CA

What I liked

The opportunity to work with other like-minded individuals sharing the same interest in our research topic was a great experience. During the midst of our research, we faced adversity regarding a software we never utilized before; we managed to figure out how the machine works within two days. I enjoyed working with a reliable team as it advances our project into the next level.

What I wish was different

I had hope this research would have been paid given the amount of time and resources put in.

Advice

I encourage anybody even remotely interested in doing research to pursue such opportunity. It had opened many doors and given me the experience in regards to how to operate in a team environment.

Advice

Being selected for the RUMBA program (Research by Undergraduates using Molecular Biology Applications) gave me an amazing opportunity to have engaging experiences in a neurophysiology research lab . Not only was I able to actively collaborate on an ongoing isolated muscle experiment, I also received a significant amount of mentoring from my PI and the RUMBA program director. I learned and practiced writing a research paper suited for publishing and I gave multiple presentations to my peers and professors. If you meet the qualification requirements and are interested in pursuing biological research, I highly recommend applying for this summer program.
