Accounting & Reporting Intern

May 2020 • Middleton, WI

What I liked

I had the opportunity to work with a variety of different accounting teams, allowing for a broader learning experience. I was routinely given projects that allowed me to make meaningful contributions to the departments I worked with. Everyone in the organization is more than willing to answer your questions and offer feedback, as they want interns to have a valuable experience. Interns are presented with multiple opportunities to network with managers and executives throughout the enterprise. This is my second summer interning with TDS Inc., and the culture played a big role in my decision to return.

IT Intern

May - August 2019 • Middleton, WI

What I liked

TDS was a great place to intern! I met a ton of people and learned a lot. The company has a strong employee focus, meaning they help you succeed in your position. I had an unofficial mentor during my internship which helped me get even more out of my experience. They also did a lot to make sure the interns were having fun while learning about their role and the company as a whole. We had several lunch meetings where we learned about the company and had the opportunity to get out of the office one afternoon to volunteer at a local park. TDS is also great at making it so you can learn about different areas of the company. If you're interning in one area but are interested in a different department, they give you an opportunity to learn more about those areas which was really helpful. What's even better is that I received a full-time offer at the end of the summer!

What I wish was different

There isn't much that I'd change about my internship experience with TDS. We had the opportunity to see presentations about what other departments are in charge of. However, if it was possible to get hands on experience in different departments, that would be great, even if you partnered with a different intern on this.

Advice

You're the one who gets to determine how much you learn and get out of your internship. TDS allows for skip-level meetings, which essentially means you can request a meeting with people all over the business to talk to them and learn more about what they do. If there's an area you're really interested in, don't be afraid to schedule a skip-level meeting with someone to learn more about it. TDS invests in its people, so if you're interning in one area but are interested in another, that's a good thing! You may even be able to get a position in that area eventually.

Business Intelligence IT Intern

June 2020 • Madison, WI

What I liked

I worked from home during Summer 2020 and TDS did the best they could for their interns to have a good virtual internship experience. We had weekly Microsoft Teams calls where we had the opportunity to meet and network with different employees across the business units. I got to meet the executive board in one of the Intern events and had few 1:1 meetings with my superiors, such as the CIO of the company. Additionally, due to COVID-19, the company sent some KN95 face masks, TDS merch and all my work equipment to my house. The level of concern the company has for their employees and focus for new hires to meet the entire TDS team is exceptional.
