The people were amazing. They were constantly helping me learn and integrating me with the entire team. The work was immersive and interesting and I felt like I was making a difference even as an intern.

What I wish was different

There were times where it was unorganized, and I was having to go searching for something to do occasionally.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask tons of questions and get to know as many people as you can around the office, it will only make your experience better.

What I liked

I really enjoyed the work. I was able to learn new software to make processes more efficient which was super fun for me. I also enjoyed the BYNs (Build Your Network) since I could learn about other departments and not just the one I was in.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have experienced the culture of actually being in the office instead of working from home. The internship was completely online because of COVID-19.

What I liked

This position offered a chance to get licensed in Health and Life insurance. It opened my eyes into how different insurance places structure their business. TransAmerica relies on employee's to personally grow their business. Other places have consumers come to them.

What I wish was different

It was commission based work.

Great people to work with. be open minded and realize that there are a lot of commission based job out there.

What I liked

I really enjoyed learning how sales really drives business and without sales business will fail. I also really enjoyed learning about how sales and marketing go hand and hand.

I wish I could have interned for not such a corporate company, I want to do sales for an outdoor company.

One piece of advice is don't be afraid of change. Sometime change can be a lot to handle but it the end it can lead you down a path of success or ultimately a better life.

What I liked

I really enjoyed the real world experience and the culture at Transamerica. For my internship, I was given meaningful and worthwhile projects that helped me grow as a professional. I also really enjoyed the culture at Transamerica. Everyone that I worked with, no matter how high up they were in the company, was willing to help me with any question that I had.

What I wish was different

None! I really enjoyed my experience at Transamerica, and I cannot wait to start full time there next summer!

Advice

One piece of advise would be to never hesitate to ask questions no matter how dumb they may seem at the time. I would suggest networking with as many people as you can.

What I liked

Transamerica is a really great company to work for! All of the employees that I interacted with were very willing to share their knowledge and expertise in order to help me to grow as a future actuary and young professional.

What I wish was different

It was somewhat difficult to find affordable housing downtown, but the experience f living downtown was phenomenal.

Advice

Don't be afraid to reach out to people within the company outside of your department and team! Being able to gain an awareness of the insurance industry by talking to actuaries all across the company greatly contributed to my positive experience.

Very Friendly and easy on a beginning intern. Good and challenging experience overall. Bosses were very helpful and were encouraged to take time to answer any and all questions interns had.

I got stuck in a data role, which was great, but did not get me very much broad product knowledge.
