This was an incredibly rewarding experience. I learned so much about the way the films are handled and organized at the museum, and I also got to help work on some audio files as well. My supervisor was amazingly supportive, explaining things I did not understand with patience. Additionally, they helped me think about my next steps leading into my future, walking me through applying for grad school and possible masters programs to consider.
What I wish was different
Due to COVID-19, my internship was entirely remote. Of course, I completely understand there was no way to work around that, but if circumstances had been different I would have loved to be on site with my supervisor.
Advice
Although I do not regret this internship at all, I will also say that it was an incredibly heavy experience. As a film archive intern, my job was to watch reels of film that had not been summarized yet, and many of them depicted horrific scenes from the Holocaust. (Which may seem obvious considering it is the Holocaust Memorial Musem, but even so.) it is no longer something you think about in a vague context, but rather something you are forced to confront in a very personal way. Still, I do not regret this internship in the slightest. These videos are a reminder of the past, and ones that need to be watched so the same mistakes do not be made.

What I liked
The staff are incredible. They are always willing to help and it is a very good entry position into the museum field.
What I wish was different
I wish there had been at least some sort of pay. I would have liked a travel compensation. The metro can get expensive.
Advice
Make sure you take advantage of all that they offer. The staff is willing to set up meetings with anyone in other parts of the museum if you want to learn more about the institution.
