Independent Sales Representative

July - August 2019 • Carlsbad, CA

What I liked

Very leadership minded and fascinating atmosphere, much to learn and do. Gives a person some experience in sales and how an agent or sales representatives work. They teach you how to do anything provided that your willing to learn

What I wish was different

I didn't enjoy their company values, although they were good people. Their actions were inconsistent with the message they were giving and something aways didn't feel right. Peer pressure and pre-existing bias pushed me away from enjoying the job

Advice

It's difficult to be a sales person, there's so much to learn and it's a good place to start if you can't find a job. Although it's probably something to list in a resume and move on rather than as a long term career choice.

Sales Advisor/Representative

May 2019 • Waldorf, MD

What I liked

I really enjoyed the sales experience I gained and learned leadership qualities from my managers. I had great experience at District meetings and meeting with my team. I had the opportunity to build my network and reconnect with past people a few degrees of separation from my main network. I was also given the opportunity to join a leadership academy and learn and better my overall value for an employer and use all sorts of leadership styles in my everyday life. My schedule was also very flexible.

What I wish was different

Vector and Cutco have a long history with people, especially students, of being a scam or "pyramid scheme". It is hard working for a company and expressing my success with this kind of stigma surrounding the job and people that are in my network afraid that my presentation will scam their parents or something which in turn, I lost out on sales. I also wish our office's sales team had also been more motivated to try and get thousands in sales instead of just selling for a few weeks and then stop working.

Advice

If you want to be successful, you have to stick with the job and be consistent. You have to make the phone calls and learn to get out of your comfort zone to build up your network and keep selling to more and more people. The first few weeks might be tough, but you have to keep going and trying and success will come.

Branch manager

May - August 2019 • LaSalle, IL

What I liked

I loved being able to run my own business for the summer. I got to sign my own lease, run my own interviews, run the trainings, and also coach the sales representatives. I had a positive impact on many people. I was able to grow them and myself professionally and personally throughout the summer. I also loved the experience because I want to own my own tattoo shop in the future. Although it had nothing to do with tattoos, I got to experience the running my own business portion. Doing this internship gave me more confidence in myself and my abilities in management and sales.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have saved up more capital on my end. The company gives us $6000 to open the branch and the rest is our own money. Although I had a very successful branch, I wish I would have saved more of my own money so that I could have done better.

Advice

I would say to step outside your comfort zone. This experience going into it scared me so much but that’s what helped me grow a lot. I would say try to find an internship or job that shares the same goals as you and wants to help you grow not only inside the business but outside the business as well.
