Washington State Department of Agriculture

Field Inspector

May - August 2019 • Yakima, WA

What I liked

Fantastic Learning Experience

What I wish was different

Wish the opportunity would have some sort of internship tied to it, other than that, this job was fantastic and I will be returning to it this coming summer.

Advice

Apply for jobs that you think are out of your reach, you never know what values others see in yourself. Don't be afraid to Learn, sometimes it can be stressful and more intimidating when it is outside of school in an employment setting, but be eager and excited to learn, YOU are doing this job, YOU are learning because YOU got this job.

Cherry Inspector

June 2016 - July 2019 • Yakima, WA

What I liked

There was extensive training before they sent you out in the field. The job forces you to work independently as supervisors only check on you once or twice a day.

What I wish was different

Nothing, it was a really positive experience that taught me a lot about communication and adhering to state law.

Advice

Since it is a job that requires you to work 7 days a week for anywhere from 10-12 hours a day I would suggest you pick up something to help you decompress and also remind yourself that it is only a summer job and the money you make will be worth it in the end.
