Human Resources Intern

May - August 2019 • Waterbury, CT

What I liked

I liked that I was working in a small company for my first internship experience. I was the only intern in my department. This allowed me to create meaningful relationships with experienced professionals while also getting hands-on tasks that helped me gain a better business acumen for all Human Resources functions.

What I wish was different

I wish I received more feedback. I felt as though everything I did was right and I wish I would have had more feedback to take with me to the next company I go to.

Advice

I would say building relationships and reaching out to others with questions is vital in order to succeed in your first internship. The point of the internship is to benefit the youth and allow them to have exposure. Therefore, you must take advantage of any and all opportunities you experience.

Accounting Intern

May - August 2019 • Waterbury, CT

What I liked

The people are the atmosphere were amazing, everyone was always willing to take their time and help me or talk to me. A lot of networking opportunities, I got to create strong relationships with seniors and executives, including the CFO.

What I wish was different

The recruiting process was a little unorganized and rushed, applied for the position over the winter and I did not hear back until late spring, and I had to do my interview during finals week of spring semester and found out that I was hired only two weeks before my start date.

Advice

Take advantage of the networking opportunities and BE A SPONGE, absorb everything that you are being taught and remember that they are paying you to teach you, whereas college you are paying them to teach you.

Credit Risk Intern

May - August 2018 • Stamford, CT

What I liked

The team was extremely helpful in forwarding my education.

What I wish was different

Wish there was more client-facing work.

Advice

Having an internship in a financial firm, specifically a specialty finance division of the firm, provided me with an unparalleled learning experience. I believe I learned more in my time at a smaller specialty bank than I would have at one of the big banks.
