Web Applications Developer

June 2019 • Rochester, NY

What I liked

Throughout this Co-Op, I've overcome and been through both personal and professional growth. Professionally, I've learned to how the culture of a company can change the motivation, happiness, and performance of an employee. For my career path, I've learned it's essential that you must get along with your team on a personal and professional level where you feel respected and where you fit in. I've also realized how important it is to focus on an individuals strengths and to assign someone what they're skilled and passionate for. This will bring out the most for an employee, and in my case I focused more heavily on aspects which are considered more web design based, which made me learn more through research, and gave me something to work towards. I've learned a lot personally as well by figuring out what I'm passionate about and where I want to end up working after graduation. Working at Wegmans as a Web Developer has helped me realize where I want to go and to be around a culture as healthy as the one I am in now.

What I wish was different

Throughout this Co-Op assignment, I've also been through both personal and professional negative experiences. One of these were my professional experiences and wanting to dive deeper from a development/workload standpoint. There are times when I don't have much to do and ultimately sometimes I wish I had more responsibilities and work, but being a Co-Op puts a barrier for me to put my efforts into any heavy workloads and keeps me restricted to working only on work hours. I have become very passionate about the Wegmans new website project and contributed quite a bit so far, but I'm hoping in the future they will provide me with more responsibilities as I gain experience within the position.

Advice

One piece of advice I'd share would be to enjoy what you do and who you work with. Not only have I felt like I've gained more of a position of power and importance within my company, but my co-workers also are very respectful and make an effort to get to know me as a person. Overall this allows and motivates me to do better when I work everyday and improve myself as well in a more professional and technical level.

Management Intern

May 2016 • Buffalo, NY

What I liked

The MI program enables you to grasp a better understanding of how to operate a small business inside of a larger company. You are given the opportunity to run the department you are assigned to for the summer, & that in itself is a big task to give to an 18 year old. This program has left me better equipped to manage a team of people in a productive & positive way.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had seen the business from a more corporate perspective.

Advice

Take every opportunity that you are given! Take every opportunity to travel & expand with the company, it will pay off.

Store Operations Internship

June - August 2018 • Fairfax, VA

What I liked

Working with Wegmans was like working with a family. Everyone was so friendly and really took the time out of their days to teach me valuable skills and how a large Fortune 100 company operates. I loved how we took trips to local farms in order to see the whole process from farm to stores, as well as the large projects it gave to us which allowed us to implement innovation however we saw fit within the whole company.

What I wish was different

One thing I wish was different, was I wish they gave more time in the project. It was a lot of work to be done within 3 months, but if anything it taught me how to work under pressure.

Advice

One piece of advice I would give is to set up a schedule for the summer and really pay attention to the calendar. It is expected that you organize yourself and keep up with the pace of work. If you fall behind, make sure to notify your assigned mentor so they can help you get caught up.

Cashier

June 2017 • Liverpool, NY

What I liked

I like being able to interact with customers and coworkers while checking them out. I also was given the opportunity to help restock shelves, and that was a cool experience to be able to work alongside corporate.

What I wish was different

I wish that I could have done more jobs around the store that could have offered more variety in the shifts that I had. It would have been nice to work outside some on Helping Hands to assist customers in a different way, by helping them to their car and removing carts from the parking lot.

Advice

Even though you just see a customer for a minute out of their day, I try my best to cheer them up in any way possible. I love Wegmans' high standards, because they care so much about the customers' experience and pleasing them. I always consider it a successful shift if the customers can leave smiling and all of their needs are fulfilled.
