My team leader was preparing us for her departure to a different store and it was really sad because she was a strong and organized leader.

Advice

Wegmans is a great company to work for. They strive for their employees to grow and move around the company in order for personal growth so you can never really get burned out.

What I liked

I want to make a career through Wegmans! The summer Store Operation internship gave me the tools I needed to learn the functions of a department manager and grow with the company. It was such a nice experience, and I am looking forward to doing it again next summer. I loved going to different stores and gaining insight on how to re merchandize our store. It gave me the opportunity to run the department, track sales, and manage waste.

What I wish was different

I wish the hours were a bit different. Typically, I had the same shift every day. 6am -2:30pm. I wish I could have learned the department during night time hours as well.

Advice

YOU need to be the one who gets involved! I put myself out there and signed myself up for this internship and it was one of the greatest decisions I've made. Get involved. Form relationships with co-workers. You'll never know when you may need them one day, or that they can even help you out in the future.

What I liked

The people at Wegmans are really laidback, friendly, and approachable. The environment allowed me to ease in very quickly and comfortably. They try their best to accommodate interns and they are very supportive!

What I wish was different

I wish there was more work to do. As an intern, I expected tasks of more variety as time went on but I ended up doing essentially the same thing which became stale. A lot of the times, I would end up not being as productive as I would like due to the lack of work. I was also disappointed that not everyone was able to do test automation as implied in the job description.

Advice

While Wegmans is a great company with great people, this position did not provide the amount of experience I was seeking. However, I believe other internships Wegmans that provides can be very helpful towards your career so do not let this review dissuade you from applying to them!

Event Services Summer Intern

What I liked

I enjoyed the people I worked with, along with the unique experience that one could only get by doing this job. I also enjoyed the manual labor attached to this job, growing up working on a farm, it was nice to have similar working conditions.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more time there. I wish the pay would have been slightly higher. I wish there was a chance for me to have a higher amount of responsibility.

Advice

If you have completed your Co-ops and have nothing better to do over the summer, this is an awesome job. Expect to work hard. That being said, the work is quite enjoyable.

What I liked

I liked the pace of the job and the people I worked with. I currently work at a Buffalo Wegman's but transferred to a store closer to home for the summer. The company was great with helping me transition. The Syracuse store was smaller and gave me a new experience with a great company.

What I wish was different

I think the communication between the stores could have been better to help me transfer but everything worked out well. I don't really have any complaints.

Advice

It's important to enjoy the quirks and characters of different stores and work places. For instance, I was able to enjoy new coworkers and a new group of customers. I do this every shift by relating to others, which I believe is very powerful.

I would have liked to change my hours. I had to work from 1pm - 9:30pm

What I liked

It's a great customer service experience with management experience. Wegmans is such a friendly environment with a great set of co-workers. The work schedule is extremely flexible with great cooperation among management.

What I wish was different

As much as the scheduling was fantastic, over the summer I held two different positions and it was difficult to schedule each one.

Advice

When working in customer service at a grocery store it's really important to look to others for help. There are a lot of products in the store and it's almost impossible to know them all. So ask for help!
