Target

Cashier

June - September 2019 • McKinney, TX

What I liked

I liked how invested the managers were in their employees— they constantly stressed that they would rather work with you to improve your situation than have you leave. They let me take an education leave when I moved to college so I didn’t have to quit, and now I have a stable job every time I come back home.

Cashier

May 2017 • Columbus, IN

What I liked

It's easy and the hourly rate is better than most similar positions

What I wish was different

It doesn't have anything to do with what I want to do after oberlin

Advice

It's okay to not do some magical internship that changes your life. Summer is a good time to take a break and work on things you love. I got an easy summer job so that I could devote other time to doing things that are important to me and grow me as a person.

Cart Attendant

June 2014 • Sterling, VA

What I liked

I really like the fact that I get to have more experience in customer service. I learns how to speak to others in a more professional level like greet customers. Also how to deal with problems at hand on my own without any assistance.

What I wish was different

I would have done an internship with my company if I had known they had one early on.

Advice

My advice to others about this experience is that the job will help you get out of your shell if you are shy and closed off like me. It allows me to change into a whole different person for the better in terms of talking to people, not being shy, or simply asking questions when I have to.

Cafe Server

June 2019 • East Greenbush, NY

What I liked

I love working with customers, especially little kids who come in and ask for popcorn. Making pizzas and pastas is easy, and for the most part my shifts go quickly because there is always something to do.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have been trained in my own store, and that our facilities were cleaner. I try very hard to keep it clean, but it has been mismanaged since before I started and so there is only so much I can change.

Advice

When working in any job, but particularly a minimum wage job, always find something to do. A manager will notice when it is a slow and you are finding odd cleaning and/or organization jobs. This makes your shift feel faster, and it will help the facility as a whole to run smoother.

What I liked

The team supervisors were very friendly and helpful when you needed help finding something for an order or for a customer.

Target Fulfillment Team Member

July - October 2019 • San Ramon, CA

What I liked

One thing I liked about my experience working at Target is the positive interactions I would have with the guests who were shopping. Being a fulfillment team member, I was constantly on my feet and navigating the store and looking for the items guests purchased. As a result, guest interactions were inevitable and I was always pleased to help make others' shopping experience enjoyable. More often than not, guests were delighted with my services and in return were very kind to me making my job pleasant.

What I wish was different

One thing I wish would have been different from my time at Target was the turn around time from when I received my conditional job offer and when I actually started working. The time in between these two was about two weeks. I wish I could have started working sooner and that Target was more prompt with reaching back to me in between interviews.

Advice

One piece of advice about my experience working at Target is to hold value in your interactions you have with your co-workers, guests, and executive team leaders. These connections can lead to future opportunities that may reap benefits.

Executive Team Lead

July - August 2020 • Puyallup, WA

What I liked

My store had poor metrics for their fulfillment department so I took that as an opportunity to make an impact in my store. I analyzed the department, figured out where improvement could be made and implemented a new system. I set daily goals for picking/packing and assigned roles and saw a 10% improvement in our metrics.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship could’ve been the full 10 weeks (thanks COVID).

Advice

Make yourself known. Find opportunities where you can make a difference. Get to know your team and find areas of success and struggle. If you have ideas for improvement, share them!! You never know what kind of difference you can make.
