You must be ok walking quickly throughout the store for the entirety of the shift. It is very hands on and independent.

Operations Manager Intern

June - August 2019 • Shafter, CA

What I liked

I enjoyed the opportunity to improve my overall business acumen. I was able to learn many complex systems that Target uses for it's Supply Chain and the metrics that are used to track real time productivity. I also had a great time being able to lead my own team for the final three weeks of the internship. Overall, the internship helped me grow as a leader and improved my interpersonal skills quite a bit.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship was a bit more structured. I felt that there were times in which the mentor assigned to me for the duration of the internship did not know what she wanted me to do. I think have more projects to do and a more organized structure would've been beneficial.

Advice

The main piece of advice that I would share about this experience is that it is for someone with an open mind to their job environment. Working in a warehouse and communicating with a rather diverse workforce in a high demanding situation is not for everyone but you can learn quite a bit with an open mind.
